Life on the Ranch is a unique and life changing experience for its staff members, but it is hard work and dedication that make the ranch a great place for our guests. As a Wrangler, days are long and sometimes I would rather take a nap than eat lunch, so staying motivated and energized is extremely important. I had one guest ask me, “Do you ever get tired of doing your job?”. That was probably around week nine or ten on the ranch, at that point we all start to get tired, but I never once heard one of my teammates complain. Doing daily chores can be taxing, but I never get tired of doing my job. What helps me accomplish certain jobs is to listen to music I can dance or sing to. Many of my coworkers and managers often witnessed me singing/dancing while saddling horses, cleaning up the corrals, or even cleaning on the weekends with the housekeepers. If I can sing, I can do the job! Hard work at the ranch can teach a person many things, and for me it helped me gain patience and I learned to deal with my own emotions better. Tired? Ok, you still must get up at 6:30am and work. Hungry? You have to wait until the lunch or dinner bell rings, being hangry doesn’t fly in the corrals. I just listen to my music and get it done! In case anyone is wondering, my favorite song to jam out to is “Pump It” by the Black Eyed Peas. -Sarah Wood (Wrangler)
