Hello from the 7D Winter Office in Cody!
The days are finally getting longer here in Cody, but the weather can’t seem to make up its mind between winter and spring – it’s definitely been an interesting combination of both seasons over the last week or so!
We are in full swing preparing for the 2017 season, and we couldn’t be more excited. We have a wonderful mix of new and returning guests – just a few more cabins open so get in quickly! – which will keep the weeks fun and interesting, as always.
I’ve gotten to enjoy checking on our horses in Beacon Hill which is right near Cody — what a peaceful way to spend the afternoon, walking through the hills and counting to make sure we still have 35 horses and 4 steers up and healthy. Often, I take the dogs out so they can run around – definitely the highlight of their day.
Probably the most exciting news on the ranch is that we are rebuilding our Big Buffalo cabin! I was fortunate enough to see what it looked like when the old cabin was completely knocked down, and it’s been quite the process to see it get built. Those of you who are staying in Big Buff this summer are SO LUCKY. What a gorgeous cabin. Byron and Jesse, our two winter caretakers, have been working tirelessly to make sure that every wooden beam, window and door is perfectly in place. They are aiming to have the cabin completed in less than 2 months! We’re also working on all of the rest of the pieces of the puzzle – curtains, beds, bedding, furniture. It really ends up being quite the endeavor but we know it will be worth it!
I had never been up to the 7D (or to Cody) in the winter – so I didn’t really know what to expect. I have to say I have been so blown away and in awe of how beautiful this area is in the winter! I wake up to deer in my backyard, and driving up the 7D driveway usually has me seeing moose and elk along the way – how cool.
While the snow has melted in Cody, it’s definitely still hanging out up in Sunlight Basin — and we’re preparing for the muddy mess that will ensue in the coming weeks!!
Hope that everyone is well.
